(More customer reviews)This lamp was designed by an art nouveau artist then left un-produced due to problems with the logistics of creating such a lamp. It has been created only much more recently, and it has been a fantasy for my sister to obtain one. I decided this past birthday to splurge and surprise her.
I myself was surprised as well, by the nature of the lamp that arrived. The inset gems on the peacock feathers and in the headband appear to be bejeweled style plastic, and are a bit garrish. The lampshade itself is a cheap plastic and fits poorly into the socket on the model I received, resting at an angle. Perhaps worst of all, though, was the over-generous heaping of glitter smeared across both lampshade and base, looking like a grade school art project. The glitter was an afterthought, I have to assume, for after deciding I could not give the piece to my sister in such a state I took a wet rag to the glitter parts, and removed the unwanted substance with a minimal amount of effort. The green paint, on the base and the lampshade, was then revealed. It was probably the reason for the glitter. It was sloppily applied, and of a fairly cheap quality.
All this said, once the glitter had been vigorously scrubbed away the lovely shape of the lamp was more easily observed, and it is very nicely cast. The finish is not so grey-silver as the picture would show and the detail is lovely. My sister has decided to remove the paint and replace the cheap gems with higher quality glass ones when she fines the right sizes. And when all these adjustments are made, it will look quite elegant. But at $126, when you calculate shipping and handling, I do not want a product delivered in such a fixer-upper state. Over all, disappointed by the severe tackiness this piece suffered from.
